THE 4 HUMAN TEMPERAMENTS

Human temperaments are aspects present in the personality of every human being that indicate how our behavior will be and how we will deal with the situations proposed by the world, including the work environment. Temperament is seen as an element that is already born with the person, although it can be controlled

through self-knowledge.

Personality, on the other hand, is formed according to our experiences and especially our influences.

The study of human temperaments began with Hippocrates, who lived between 460 and 370 BC, and is considered the father of medicine.

In his theory, Hippocrates presented 4 humors that would determine the temperament of the human being: blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. The balance between the 4 elements would represent a good health condition, and its imbalance, the disease.

Later, influenced by Hippocrates, Cláudio Galen, pioneer of modern pharmacology, continued the study of the 4 humors, reaching the 4 types of human temperaments:

Choleric;

Melancholy;

Phlegmatic;

Sanguine;

In antiquity, each of the temperaments was linked to an element, water, fire, earth and air, and as it was thought that a disease indicated the imbalance of one of these, the temperament considered lacking delimited how the treatment should be.

Currently studies of human temperaments turn to psychology and self-knowledge, helping people to understand how they relate to the world and leaders to achieve balance in their management processes.

To work on our temperament, we need to know it and for that, self-knowledge is necessary, and understanding that it is a characteristic that accompanies us throughout our lives. But that doesn't mean it can't be worked on, molded, so that some traits, which can be harmful to us and to the people we live with, don't have so much prominence.

Before starting to explain each one of them, it's important to say that we don't necessarily have just one temperament. We may have traits from others, but usually one of them dominates our personality.

Check out the characteristics of human temperaments below:

Choleric

People whose choleric temperament is predominant were associated with the fire element, and are characterized by expansiveness, having a great ability to lead and engage in challenges.

Cholerics can show behaviors such as explosiveness and arrogance, having to balance themselves to reach the level of humility.

All this energy can be used very well in team management, but with care not to cross the line.

Strengths: determination, leadership ability and practicality;

Points that need to be worked on: egocentrism, intolerance and impatience.

Melancholy

People whose among the types of human temperament the predominant is the melancholic, are compared to a rock, because of their firmness.

Its main characteristic is usually the power of decision, which comes with persistence.

So much firmness can make melancholics see things less lightly and more inflexibly.

Strengths: loyalty, dedication and sensitivity;

Points that need to be worked on: selfishness, pessimism and inflexibility.

Phlegmatic

Phlegmatics flow like water and are calm and patient people, adapting to the environment, and because of this, they have the facility to communicate with different groups.

All this fluidity can make the phlegmatic not take so many initiatives and ends up finding himself in a place of comfort.

Strengths: are balanced and reliable;

Points that need to be worked on: slowness, resistance to changes and indecision.

Sanguine

As the last among the 4 human temperaments we have the sanguine, represented by the air.

This type of temperament in predominance indicates that the person is extroverted and is usually the center of attention.

Blood type must be careful not to be over the top in its pursuit of attention.

Strengths: they are communicative, resilient, adaptable and enthusiastic;

Points that need to be worked on: impulsiveness, lack of attention, superficiality and exaggeration.

These were the 4 TEMPERAMENTS, remembering that there are no good or bad temperaments, nor are their characteristics good or bad, they are, as the name itself says, the SEASONING of each one's life.

Whether we are going to use this seasoning well or not depends on each one, that is, do not use it as a label, it is just a basis of how each one lives.
